Holodeck

Last night DeadHeadDMT ran a class at TUi on making a Holodeck Emitter System.

I give him credit, he was slick about supplies :)  There were a couple who hovered around during 75% of the class, despite it was full and clearly stated and requested that they vacate the area.  I suppose they meant to snag the “real” supplies.  Snagging them away from those who are seated.

I don’t know why but that really just burns me up, it’s obnoxious.  If you don’t have a seat, don’t touch the supply jar.  It never fails, the popular/interesting classes always have leeches who touch the jar despite not having a seat.  Then the seated people have to say “I didn’t get supplies!” and the teacher says “Class is full, I’m sorry” then “No no, I’m seated already!  Someone else stole my supply click!” and every now and again, one of those tools who was hovering around.. says “Well, why don’t you ask soandso to leave, I have supplies and I’ll take their seat and they can just come another day.”

The nerve…  It never works.  What’s the point of snagging supplies anyway, you don’t get notes, you generally only get the textures that are found in basic library anyway.  So, what.. you just like being a tool?

Well his base supplies contained no scripts, so they had to hover longer for the next round of supplies he’d offer.  Then he announced he’d get the scripts to us.  He handed them to us personally, since he had edited the channels to be different for each of us.  I think that’s about when the two people hovering went away.

Take the class instead, don’t be tools and disrupt it for the rest of us with your tacky bling and various other scripted, laggy bits.  The least you could have done was removed all that crap when the rest of us turned our AO’s off.  You’re not special, you’re a tool.

Back to the class, it was great!  We didn’t write the scripts, they were handed to us.  He explained how to set the scripts up by using his test objects (which are pretty neat items).  It’s great.  Well that took about 30 minutes and all I could think was wow, I can’t write a script in 30 minutes.. (class was slated for one hour) but it was okay, they are prewritten and no editing needed for the class time :)
Now I can build a house, put it in my holodeck box.  Build another.. and another.. and another… and just rez them when I want them!  He showed us space, an office, a cute room, a gallery, and just other rooms he’d built to show around the class.  One by one he changes them out.

It was fun.

You should take the class!  Later, maybe tomorrow, I’ll check out the URL that’s commented at the top of the script.  I may have a blog update on where to pick the scripts up in world, but I still highly recommend his class.

He’s a great teacher and it was a lot of fun seeing the various rooms he’d built and having someone explain the script step by step sure made it a whole lot easier.

*sniff*

I has a sadness temporarily! I just entered my last Newbie Show and Tell at NCI Kuula. I am at 89 days within Second Life™ today. But! There are always the Oldbie S&T’s! :) YAY

I hope I am still eligible to play in the Newbie Blitz tomorrow even though I’ll be exactly 90 days.  Eek!  It is hard to believe it’s been 90 days.  I’ve been playing in both Oldbie and Newbie blitz for a bit now, how sad to only have one a week now hehehehe.  I gotta find other sims with fun speed builds!  It’s good practice to build so quickly and with limitations on prim count.  Plus, it’s always fun, not to mention prizes are always neat to get :) haha

Wahoo!  I won first tonight with my Sniffy, thank you guys. Very neat builds and scripts shown tonight, great job all!  Thank you to the donors and Mutten for hosting :)
Sniffy flies around.  I made the body  myself, it’s a sculpty and the propeller is a texture I made as well.  The rest of him is free textures and basic prims :)
You can get the script over at the official SL™ forums.  If you get a script error, it’ll bump you to the spot where the error is.  When I copy/pasted it, there were two spots in which words ended up with a space stuck in.  Just fix those two spots and tada!

Yay, thank you to Aley and Muttenchops!

I have two hover scripts.  I will drop Aley’s into the bunny hovermobile yay!  Now I have something to learn from, though I am pretty proud of myself.  Between the wiki and some vehicle scripts I did get my bunny to hover.  It just wasn’t able to take flight at higher altitudes.  Lots of cut and paste and editing, but not bad.

The scripts they gave me are great!  Thanks you two :)
So now my bunny needs some building adjustments, then later I’ll drop the script back in and finish it up.

Then on to the eyes.  The eyes blink at different rates, and last night Shippy said something about a listen command.  I’ll look into that.  The eyes will look better if they blink together haha.   Right now I have a sculpty I bent to make the eyes one piece, it’s okay.  Just.. okay.

I took some classes on it a month or so ago.  Didn’t really get it though.  I still don’t, but I’m getting a little better.  I cannot help you with it though, you’re on your own.   Thank you Cel Edman for writing such a neat program! :) Tonight I figured out how to get parts to ooze out in four directions.  To make bunny legs!  Now I have a bunny head, body, tail, and two ears.  Wahoo!  They don’t look like much I figure, but to me.. I see a bunny.

It’s hard work.  I plan to make my own textures so I can have little bunny paws and inside the ears all colorized.  Weeee…

My other big project is trying to figure out vehicles.  I have the Realistic Car script that I’ve made three vehicles with so far, but I want to make my own so that I can learn what each part does and edit them up easier.

The tutorial over at SLHomepages is pretty good.  I learned a lot from reading all the way through it, still confused but not as much as I was.  I think I can look over other scripts and then pick the stuff i need from the wiki to build my own hover car.  I don’t know if the one at SL™’s wiki is the same, I didn’t actually read it over all the way.

I got it! Particles on Movement!

I think it works now! Not positive, it seems to work fine. I’m sitting here blogging while in my car and there’s no exhaust. It wasn’t working at first but when I came back from being AFK, bam.. there it is. Maybe it was just laggy earlier. I did see a lot of people in the group chats saying how lagged they were, I didn’t notice any though. Clearly, I was lagging!

When I move it sets off my particles. When I am not moving it sets off no particles, and I tossed in a llResetScript(); as well. Not sure if I need that. Do I?

I don’t know.

I’m excited. It’s been a fun several days of trying out various things on the wiki and searching the SL™ Forums to see what others have done. By fun I do mean fun, with a huge helping of aggravating on the side.

Hopefully it will work once I change sims. Still just driving on a road above my house.

I had to redo the doors, and it turns out I could probably have just reset the script. They were re-sizing when I opened the door. I’m using Timeless Door Script, btw. No idea what was up with that but it’s all fixed now.

Wahoo! Now to give my vehicle a good once over to make sure it’s just right. I’m at 29 prims.

For a future car I’d like to add it so when I turn left or right, I can make a prim animate with blinking texture or change colors for a blinker. Or maybe have it turn red when I’m not moving for brake lights. That’d be neat.

Pictures coming later. It’s not done!

(EDIT: Dang it, now it stopped working. Does this only work if someone else is nearby?)

(EDIT #2:  Uh.. nm I guess.  I went to Kuula/Uli where the highway is and it works just fine now.  I guess Cavedweller is just lagging?  That’s so annoying!)

llSensor on the plate today!

It is irking me a bit.

I tried first collisions, but apparently that will not work unless someone bumps the actual spheres in which my particle effect will ooze from. Which is pointless because that’s behind the car. I don’t plan to ram into people while driving backwards, I plan to run into their ankles while driving forward. Wait, you didn’t just read my evil plan! Shhh…. nothing to see… read further and forget that little bit of info. No need to wear ankle guards either, nope.
So far I am getting a little closer, but here’s a rundown of what I’ve tried.

The collision option, it doesn’t seem to do what I want.

I’ve tried using the llAvatarOnSitTarget but that doesn’t work for my project, I don’t sit on the two spheres that ooze particles. I can’t sit in three places at once on my car. (The two particle spheres plus the board inside my car)

so then I moved onto llSensor

I do have it so that if I’m in the immediate vicinity of the car, the exhaust kicks off. If I step away, it turns off. I’m close.

I want it to trigger when the physical object (the car, obviously) is in motion. I don’t understand how to make that work. I thought it was by using AGENT or 2. Then of course I want it to stop when I stop moving.

Right? It’s not working.

I have tried these lines within my script, this isn’t the whole thing. I got a full script from the SL™ Forums but I’m changing a few settings here and there.

llSensor(”",NULL_KEY, AGENT | SCRIPTED,1,3);

llSensor(”607cfca0-2ff8-4808-b925-05253177c2e6″,NULL_KEY, AGENT,1,3);

llSensor(”",NULL_KEY, AGENT,1,3);

llSensor(”",NULL_KEY, 2,1,3);

That UUID is my # according to Name2Key at w-hat

Soooo well…. I don’t know.

Right now I have llSensor(”",NULL_KEY, AGENT | SCRIPTED,1,3);

It’s not doing anything at all haha. No particles, no error messages, nothing. Sooo I dunno what to do. I’ll go clean house a bit and think on it.

One thing I do not like is the swirl effect when the sensor kicks on, that isn’t neat. Is it just me that sees that, or does everyone see it? I haven’t tested it out at Kuula yet.

Right now it’s set to re-do at 5 seconds. When I step away, (well, with a working version of the llSensors line) if the time is set too long it takes forever for the particles toquit as it ticks through that time there. But if I could get it to do on motion, would it quit instantly? I hope?

If so I can set the timer up higher to reduce the effect of those silly swirly lights.

Well I just do not know.

UPDATED:

Tried:

llSensor(”",NULL_KEY, 2,1,3);

llSensor(”",NULL_KEY, ACTIVE,1,3);

Nope, no particles either time.  Hmmmmm.

It’s a physical object, why doesn’t ACTIVE kick it off?  My car is in motion, I’m driving it around on a temporary road above my land too.  Zoomzoom.  Nope, no go.

Ohmygosh… I’m so close!

I have my car working except for when I added in the Realistic Tires scripts I found at the SL™ Forums, bam.. my tires are turned 90 degrees.

So I’ve been reading up at one of the wiki’s.  After this TUi Mocker’s class I’ll go test a few things.  I think that maybe my local rot is wrong (well, obviously it is or my tires would be right!)

I was doing a test drive up and down the highway in Kuula.  I’m awesome in my vehicle.

This is interesting!  It’s UUID’s of some generic things in SL™.  Textures, animations, sounds, and I forget what else. I don’t know how to use the UUID of textures on a prim other than tossing a script into the object.  Is there another way?

Here’s what I wrote today to try out some of the textures.  Pretty proud of myself, I didn’t need to look up the llSetTexture to get the format right this time!  No laughing allowed, I’m still learning scripting.  This is big haha

The script below will set the texture of the prim to that UUID (I think this one is one of the grassy textures), on all sides of the prim.

If you want to texture just one side, don’t guess at it.  That’s extra hassle you just don’t need, right?  In the edit window click the “Select Texture” near the top of the edit window above all the little tabs.  Now click the side you want to texture.

Use control-alt-shift-T  and read your chat window.

Now, instead of ALL_SIDES    type the number that spot instead!  See, no problem!

I learned that this week in two different classes.  :) default
{
state_entry()
{
llSetTexture(”abb783e6-3e93-26c0-248a-247666855da3″, ALL_SIDES);
}

touch_start(integer total_number)
{

}
}

Flying Pet Script, again

Well I can’t get the greet friend/pet option to work.  Made my husband stand there about 30 minutes waiting for it to trigger and it never did.  I set out the original “Tink” too, edited the pet/friend notecard with our names above and below the colon mark.

Nothing.

Soo maybe it’s outdated code?  I don’t really need it to greet people but that would be kind of cute once or twice :)  If I could set it to only greet once every 3 hours, so it’d not spam anyone.  Rarely am I in one spot over 3 hours haha.

I don’t understand that section of code in the Brain script though.  I don’t quite see where it pulls up from the card.  The other sections of the Brain code pull up from the various notecards.  Maybe I’m in the wrong part, maybe that’s in the secondary brain script.  Hmmm..

Well, it’s almost time for NCI’s Blitz Build.  Then sleep.

Tomorrow I hope to remember to attend the NCI Photography classes.  I keep missing them each week for the last two weeks ugh!

SL™ THREAD: Flying Pet@Forums

WIKI PAGE: Flying Pet

SLURL™: Pick up the code for 0L!

Updated Feb 28 - The SLURL is there now at the top, buy from the blue box for 0L and also from the mini castle there, 0L as well.  The blue box has “Tink” and “Tink License”.  That’s the stuff for the flying pet.  The castle is something called Poppers.  If I remember correctly, it spawns little particles that pop if touched/bumped.  That might not be right though, I didn’t hang around for it to rez.

—–

I picked up Tink after reading this thread very shortly after I started in SL™. There’s a SLURL in the forums thread to where I picked up the pet. I’m heading off to sleep now but I’ll try to remember to verify it tomorrow and post it up. I can’t remember if this was the land that is completely empty with this one item in it or if that was some other thing I picked up.

The wiki version is incomplete. Please do not pester the original script author. If he had plans to finish the wiki, I’m sure he’d of done so by now. I’m sure you can get some help on the official SL™ forums (or elsewhere on other SL™ forums), if you really get stuck. I have slightly more than zero knowledge about it, so I am probably no help with it either.

If you’re looking for why it keeps saying “bubbles!”, check the second brain script down around the third section. I just commented the line out. Took me a while to find that one.

It seems to be completely random rather than controllable. Is that right? I looked over the code but I’m pretty tired, I didn’t see any channel info for forcing it to do something.

Tomorrow I’ll do a test run with the pets and friends notecard in the prim I’m testing. I don’t quite understand what the pets part is for, but the friends seems self explanatory.

Right now I have all the random text on, I think I’ll be turning all that off. It’s really annoying after a while and I can see how aggravating that can become in a busy zone if everyone had one!

I almost have my little pet built, but for now I’m testing it in a sphere. It hovers kind of high, seeing as I’m a tiny. I’ll have to poke around in the script some more and figure out whether or not it looks okay down low. It might ram into human stomachs if I lower it though. Heh.. heh.. heh…

mew.

I have some photos of things I did today but I am too tired to post them! I won another Show and Tell at Kuula today, hooooooo! Today I showed a couch I made at CSK class on Chesterfields (Livingroom furniture is what we built). I got a trophy! I’ll post the photo tomorrow of the furniture and trophy.
