See the notecards on the left?
That’s 2 notecards opened!
I have a fix that worked for me. I’m no tech support, but I’ll write down what I did that fixed it and below that write down all the things I tried that did not fix it, but still helped my PC
Check the Knowledge Base for “uninstall” (or use the URL above it it lets you)
Do what it says, doooo it…..
Then I went back to the folder where the cache was at:
Open c:\Documents and Settings\(yourusername)\Application Data\Second Life
Then moved the entire contents of that Second Life folder to a new folder I made on my desktop.
Rebooted, reinstalled the current viewer
Logged back in, my notecards are working once again.
Now, what I found during the several hours of hassling with it!
It started earlier today after having successfully read and used notecards for a couple of hours. Suddenly, I had an issue. My notecards were only showing the edge where the scroll bar was, and sometimes the keep/discard buttons but only rarely. No text, no whole notecard. I could not close them, resize them, move them, or get rid of them. I had been relogging each time, but thanks to Ajira (Hmm I forget how to spell her name! Sorry!) you can use control-shift-W to close all the windows in the view.
Next, I spoke with two different Lindens (Rika and Rheya, thank you both!) who each consulted with more Lindens on the problem. Their suggestions were great, although it didn’t fix it, I am very appreciative of their time! We went over a lot of options, even at one point Rika logged into my account and was able to view the notecards. I logged into my account on my husband’s PC and sure enough, there’s notecards! Yoko, out at Kuula was a tremendous help, thank you!
So Rheya’s suggestion was maybe new drivers, so I tried that. No dice.
I tried the RC/First Look client (which is the same thing at the time I blog this). It’s shiny, bright, but no notecards at the time! I uninstalled, reinstalled, rebooted, even on Ajira’s suggestion got a registry cleaner and did that too. Every time I did, my login name and password were still filled in for me. I thought that was odd but it didn’t really sink in for a while.
My PC boots up fast like it used to, thank you!
So although it took what felt like forever to find a fix, the results along the way were all useful just the same. Updated drivers, clean caches, clean registry, uninstalled a few random games I didn’t even remember having on my PC. All good
My head is killing me and I’m still totally frazzled, what a hassle.
I want to send a very, very special thank you to Yokohama Imako. She worked with me with many suggestions for I’d say at least two hours maybe, out at Kuula. You are awesome, thank you :) I think you might be the only person I’ve met that truly enjoys tech support in that magnitude haha! I appreciate all the time and effort, thank you :) A big thank you to Rika and Rheya Linden, and to everyone else out at Kuula who helped me out today with suggestions and tips :) You guys are awesome. I hope I didn’t forget anyone!
I has a notecard! Nomnomnom! I am tired now haha
